I have been in clinical practice since 1984. I am a qualified practitioner of Herbal Medicine, Nutritional Therapy, Iridology and Kinesiology, and I am a registered practitioner with BANT (The British Association for Applied Nutrition & Nutritional Therapy), and The Association of Master Herbalists, which is a member of the EHTPA (The European Herbal & Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association).
What kind of health problems do you work with?
I work with people on many levels and tackle health problems by supporting the body towards normal function. This approach can help alleviate a wide range of conditions and assist in the recovery from many situations of ill health. Some of the main areas people consult me about include:
• Circulation and heart • Digestion and bowel • Energy and stamina • Hormonal and reproductive system (including thyroid, adrenals, menopause, prostate, pregnancy and breastfeeding) • Immune system and ENT (including allergy and food intolerances) • Mental and emotional wellbeing (including stress, sleep, learning, behaviour and memory) • Skin and hair • Structural tissues (including joints and bones) • Weight problems
My approach
In my work I consider people as a whole rather than just their symptoms. My experience over twenty-five years and my training in several different therapies has led me to use an integrated and holistic approach during consultations. This means that recommendations can vary enormously depending upon individual requirements, and they may include for example restoring nutrient levels, avoiding allergens detected, helping detoxification, using herbal mixtures to balance body physiology and so on. This approach can also include working alongside other practitioners including conventional medical doctors, and I prefer to contact your GP and work with them if you are on any prescription medications.
Health problems I do not give advice about
With the co-operation of your doctor I may be able to give nutritional and other supportive advice for people with these conditions, but this would not replace the medical treatment for these conditions: Cancer, Glaucoma, Diabetes, AIDS, Kidney Disease, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Epilepsy, Locomotor Ataxia and Tuberculosis (TB). In addition I do not work with people who have had organ transplants or who have heart pacemakers fitted, those who are taking a very long list of medical drugs, or who have a very complex or life threatening condition, people who are hyper allergic and suffer life threatening reactions to a wide range of allergens.
How I work
Initial free chat: To begin I offer a free ten-minute chat by phone (or email) to discuss if what you are seeking help with is within the boundaries of my work. This is also a time for you to ask any questions you may have before making an appointment. I cannot give give health advice during this chat as this can only be done after more information about you has been gathered during the consultation. If I am unable to help you I will whenever possible point you in the direction of the type of practitioner or help you are more likely to benefit from.
After the initial free chat I offer the following introductory package as part of a whole health programme:
Health questionnaire: After you have made an appointment the process of understanding your needs continues with you completing a comprehensive health questionnaire, that I assess before the consultation, (you can print the questionnaire off our website - see under ‘Booking appointments’). This questionnaire is fairly typical of those used by most Nutritional Therapists and it is a useful way of helping to assess your condition and needs. The cost of assessing your questionnaire is included in the initial fee.
First consultation: This lasts one and half hours. During this consultation I will normally go through a series of tests and assessment procedures to build up a picture of your condition and needs. These techniques include iridology, traditional tongue and pulse reading and kinesiology, and these will be combined with the findings from the questionnaire and the discussion during the consultation. I will as much as time permits explain these procedures and the results as we go through them. More in depth explanation of each of them is on my website and a report will be sent to you after the consultation. I may also recommend additional laboratory functional and nutritional tests or recommend you ask your GP for further diagnosis. There will be additional information material given to support the health program and recommendations.
Your whole health programme report: After the consultation I will write and send you a report. This is a summary and recommendations based on the questionnaire and the consultation. It would typically include details on diet changes and supplement recommendations and usually other advice, and will this be suported with additional information as needed. The cost of this report and support material is included in the initial fee. The report is normally emailed but can be sent in printed form if you do not have access to email.
Follow up suport session: This is usually best had just a few weeks after the first consultation and is commonly done by phone or email. The cost of up to twenty minutes of follow up time is included in the consultation fee, (this time can be divided into more than one follow up session as needed). This is to allow time to clarify and discuss any aspects of your health program you need help with, and for me to make adjustments to it if necessary. The results of any additional diagnostic tests for those that have done them will normally be discussed at this session as well (copies of any test results will be emailed to you), and further recommendations may be given then.
After the introductory package above your whole health program can continue with subsequent consultations and interim phone or email sessions. There is also the option of attending various workshops and courses designed to deepen understanding and support your progress to better health and wellbeing. Most people benefit from some form of regular monthly contact and support until the ideal results are achieved.
Subsequent consultations: A follow up consultation is best had four to eight weeks after the first one. They last for an hour. During subsequent consultations some of the tests and assessment techniques used during the first consultation are repeated to monitor change and progress. The recommendations in your whole health program will be updated at each consultation as you progress, and at a pace that suits you. Each consultation includes the cost of sending a written report by email or post, and a ten-minute interim support session phone or email session between consultations. It is recommended that you have regular consultations every one to two months until you have reached a point you are happy with.
Seasonal consultations: Once you have reached a point where you are happy with the results of your health programme I recommend you continue to have conultations at the change of the seasons, four times a year. This is something that was common in traditional medical systems that was designed to help prevent further problems and to continue to improve health and wellbeing. In traditional medical systems it is understood that needs change with the climatic and other influences brought by different seasons.
Coaching: These sessions are available between consultations to give extra support to you in implementing healthy changes in your diet and lifestyle. They are also there to support you with any emotional and psychological dificulties that may be hindering your progress. Coaching sessions can either be done by phone, in person, email or by skype online video.
Educational courses: These are offered occasionally to help you learn more about nutrition, healthy foods, and what to reduce or avoid. I also offer herbal first aid and other courses, if interested please get in touch.
Feng shui consultation: I have found that it is quite common for a person to be adversely affected in some way by their environment, either at home or work. This service is offered to help assess and improve your environment, and the influence it may be having on your health, wellbeing and other areas of your life.
